A cold and cloudy afternoon didn't keep Jersey City's youngs soccer players away during the reopening of the Caven Point Soccer Field.

The field received $1 million in renovations, bringing it to state-of-the-art status.

Today's opening, attended by Mayor Steve Fulop, Assemblyman Raj Mukherji, members of the New York Red Bulls and Joseph Santella, the president of the Jersey City Soccer Association, kicked off the city's spring soccer season.

The field renovations include a new, state-of-the-art artificial turf surface, field lighting, scoreboard, and spectator seating. The upgrades were funded primarily through donations from the NY/NJ Snowflake Youth Foundation, the U.S. Soccer Foundation, and the Hudson County Open Space Trust Fund.

The soccer field is the home of the Jersey City Soccer Association, an all-volunteer program that teaches soccer to more 700 kids in Jersey City.
